My name is Amy Norman, owner and designer of Amie Amor. Born out of an obsession with stationery and a desire to create something a little different, Amie Amor aims to make special moments even more memorable with my range of laser-etched and personalised cards and gifts.
My love of art and etching was clear from a young age when I used to etch ‘Amy4’, my name and favourite number, on window sills around the family home. Luckily, my graphic designer father viewed this as art (rather than graffiti), and encouraged me to pursue my passion, leading me to study fine art at university and subsequently create Amie Amor in 2015.
Inspired by a love of graphics and clean, simple design, I originally specialised in personalised greetings cards and framed artwork, perfect as unique gifts for family members and friends. I expanded the business in 2016, extending my home studio and investing in specialist laser cutting equipment. The bold, no-fuss style remains, but the range has now evolved to include individually laser-etched, superb quality wooden gifts and cards.
I am passionate about working with wood, right down to the smell of the burnt wood fresh from the laser machine – you can often still smell it when your parcel arrives in the post. Each board is beautifully crafted from English oak and has its own texture, edges, grain and knots to make it unique – and this respect for the materials I use has led me to seek only the best and most sustainable options for my gifts.
All the wood used is sourced from sustainably managed forests, certified by The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and can often be traced back to the tree it came from. In addition to oak, the specialist plywood used is certified by The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), the world’s leading forest certification organisation. It is cultivated birch wood which grows quickly, making it very sustainable. All card and paper products are also recycled, and I use vegan suede that is eco-friendly. Even shipping materials are recycled and recyclable wherever possible.
Family and friends have always been at the heart of my work. Now that I have a young family of my own, I cherish the little moments and appreciate continuing family traditions, whilst also making room for new ones. I love to capture these moments and create lasting memories, and I truly believe my hand-crafted gifts do just that.
